About Us - Introduction
Community Connections is a registered non-profit organisation based in Philippi, Cape Town. The organisation was initiated in 2000 by a group of volunteer community workers (CWs) who identified an urgent need to support community-led development and address the isolation of Community Based Organisations(CBOs) and CWs.
Based on a comprehensive needs assessment a capacity development programme was piloted with 20 CBOs between August 2000 and January 2001. The pilot was auspiced by Ikamva Labantu and sponsored by the Friends of David Anderson Africa Trust, RC Stigting Maagdenhuis, Boom Room Business Forum and Truworths.
Community Connections was constituted and launched in May 2001 and formally registered as a non-profit organisation (NPO) in August 2002.
Over the past seven years, we have developed an effective and integrated capacity-building programme which includes organisational development support (ODS), training, technical/infrastructural support; networking and advocacy work. The programme has reached approximately 100 CBOs and 300 community workers and we have a growing network of clients and partners who support our work. We have also been proactive in promoting the interests of CBOs through our links with local government; showcase events and international partnerships. In August 2006, Community Connections and NICDAM were awarded a tender from the South African National Department of Social Development. Community Connections’ task is to train 25 community based organisations in the Eastern Cape in management skills and to equip designated mentoring
