“Conscientise”,“Organise” and “Agitate”

What do we mean by “Conscientise”?

We believe that development can only be sustainable, if individuals, communities and through this society at large are aware of the inter-relationships of economic, political and social initiatives at a local, national and international level. All our services thus do not only focus on equipping people with skills, but also include an awareness raising component.

What do we mean by “Organise”?

Collective action is more powerful than individual action. Community development is thus more effective, if a collective effort is taken. However, for such effort to have the highest possible impact, certain forms of organisational structure and leadership are necessary. We thus assist CBOs in strengthening their organisational skills.

What do we mean by “Agitate”?

Whereas conscientisation leads to awareness about people’s rights, a fulfilment of these rights needs to be claimed. For this to happen, agitation is necessary. We have thus included an advocacy aspect in our work. Through this, CBOs are given a space to voice their concerns and to “agitate” for a change in policy, to provide them with the recognition they deserve.

All individuals and organisations that have taken part in one of our programmes are eligible to become Associates of the organisation.

What are associates?

Associates are CWs or CBOs who have taken part in Community Connections’ training or ODS programme. Associates can then become part of the Advocacy programme and determine the strategy of the organisation through their input in annual general and other general meetings.
