Unit 7 |
VISION & MISSIONSouth's Africa's history is a demonstration of how the power of community activism can lead to radical social and political change. However, after liberation, community activism decreased. The Gini Coefficient, which provides an indication of the level at which income is equally or unequally distributed throughout a population, has shown that between 1995 and 2005 the inequality in South Africa has increased. This indicates that the economic growth that has occurred after 1994 has not favoured the majority of the people in South Africa. South Africa's weakened civil society combined with huge economic inequality requires a strong voice from the people. The country must move toward a more people centred policy and approach. Community Connections is committed to strengthen civil society as to empower community organisations to agitate for the transformation of the society towards a more people centred approach. VisionOur vision is a world in which justice and sustainable development prevail through an active civil society. MissionOur mission is to promote community-led development by strengthening the capacity of community workers and community structures to conscientise, organise and act towards the transformation of society |
